Social security and endogenous growth

Article Abstract:

Analysis of the relationship between social security programs and per capita income shows that unfunded programs actually accelerate economic development because they decrease fertility. This result is verifiable from the experience of developed countries where economic growth has been accompanied by decreasing fertility rates. The effect is true regardless of whether or not receipts are based on contributions. It is also true when private intergenerational transfers are involved.
