The Bay Area in Congress

Article Abstract:

The influence of the San Francisco Bay Area, CA, Democratic Party's delegation of legislators in the US Congress is waning. The Republican Party's domination of Congress in 1994 displaced Bay Area Democratic legislators from their powerful and important committees. San Jose's Norm Mineta was displaced as head of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Similarly, Oakland's Ron Dellums lost the chairmanship of the National Security Committee. As minority legislators they have acted against a spending legislation favoring oil companies over California schools.
