The last populist

Supervisor Kenneth Hahn has retiredafter 40 years of service in the Los Angeles Board of Supervisors. People remember Hahn as a populist whose concern and dedication endeared him to his constituents. He believes in the nobility of the political profession and criticizes politicians who use their office to achieve power and fame. He knowshow to get conservatives to his side and has achieved recognition for his bold innovations. His retirement years may be spent as a political adviser, consultant and fund-raiser. His devotion to public service will long be remembered by the people he served.

Anthrax! Scary, costly real

Article Abstract:

The use of anthrax as an agent of terrorism is causing alarm because of four reasons. The agent is highly lethal, can be easily produced in huge amount at low cost, can be easily weaponized and cannot be easily detected. In the 1st qtr 1998, the FBI has received has more than 20 anthrax threats mainly in California. One possible method of detection, mass spectrometry/affinity laset technology is still being evaluated as a viable option.
