The next wave

Article Abstract:

An increasing number of children, being held in detention camps and juvenile halls, are accused of violent crimes. Policy makers have been prompted to give urgent attention to this serious problem. However, they are having difficulty on deciding whether to impose punitive actions to juvenile offenders or prevent such crimes through early intervention and prevention. Some activists, on the other hand, believe that new research techniques could aid policy makers in accurately gauging which is more effective between punishment and prevention.

Katz versus Alarcon

Article Abstract:

The battle for the 20th Senate District seat between Los Angeles, CA, councilman Richard Alarcon and former Assembly Democrat leader Richard Katz was so bitter and the outcome of the contest so close that it became the most closely monitored legislative battle of 1998. A recount demanded by Katz has raised serious concerns regarding the widening rift between two of the Democratic party's founding constituencies, namely, the white Jewish liberals and the emerging Latino electorate.

Power

Article Abstract:

The coordination between individual and institutional power along with the natural resources of California have contributed to the shaping of the California Dream ever since the discovery of gold there. Institutional powers used the concept of the California Dream to attract both a labor force and customers. The creativity and imagination of the individual were the source of the California Dream.
