A new rhythm for the Blues

Article Abstract:

The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association's 68 plans nationwide are rapidly converting to managed and integrated care approaches. Blue Cross/Blue Shield enrolled 7.1 million people in its health maintenance organizations in 1994 and has established 38 integrated delivery systems among its plans. Integration is being considered in Maryland through increased for-profit subsidiaries. Plans in Ohio and Massachusetts are also undergoing changes.

Revenge is the best medicine

Article Abstract:

A group of minority doctors shut out of managed care plans in San Diego, CA, because they could not prove that they could bring in a certain number of patients, formed their own independent practice association called Multicultural Care Group. The group consists of doctors who are from different ethnic groups. Most minority doctors have been slow to get involved in managed care situations.

A new vision of imaging

Article Abstract:

Radiology services are decreasing with the increase of managed care in the healthcare industry. Radiologist's incomes are predicted to fall and doctors are using drug treatment over radiation therapy. While some doctors believe this change is giving reimbursement considerations priority over proper care for patients, others feel that it will improve the quality of the radiation industry.
