Assessment Tools for Evaluating Human Potential

Article Abstract:

In order to be able to evaluate an employee's potential a manager needs to understand human emotion. Watson Associates in Lafayette, California, has developed a People Knowledge System which has the characteristics of being self-administered, self-scored and self-interpreted. Four dimensions of human emotion which are measured by the test are dominance, inducement, steadiness and compliance. The evaluation of the test results in trait casting. Trait casting can be helpful in determining behavioral characteristics that might fit certain job situations. The key to using this system lies in applying the interpretive data to interpersonal situations in a working environment.

Projecting a Professional Self-Image

Article Abstract:

To project a positive self-image one needs to know how one wants to appear to others. Personal appearance, one's work place and body language are aspects of the image one projects. Feedback is necessary in order to correct negative aspects of one's body language. Managers must learn to avoid emotionalism in responding to this feedback. Once the manager learns to separate emotionalism from helpful feedback the manager's interaction with co-workers becomes more productive. The manager will then be able to constructively criticize a subordinate or co-worker without eliciting a defensive posture.
