Hospital staffing adjustments under global budgeting

Article Abstract:

Ana analysis of the effect of global budgeting on hospital staffing in the US Dept of Veterans Affairs hospitals is presented. The Dept of Veterans Affairs hospitals consists of 159 hospitals and represents the largest centrally administered health care delivery system in the US. Research results indicate that the labor requirements model for production technology estimates is more effective than are direct production function models.

Human resource departments and hospital labor strategies

Article Abstract:

External labor sources are increasingly being used by hospitals which in the past had relied on their own workforce to carry out all hospital-related functions. The use of external sources encompasses such areas as emergency and pharmacy. This trend had meant that the value placed in hospital staffing personnel, who traditionally had undertaken training, hiring and screening, had been lowered.
