Been there. Done that. Now what?

Article Abstract:

Legacy Health System CEO John G. King is chairman-elect of the American Hospital Assn (AHA). His career in the healthcare industry began when he pushed gurneys as a summer job near his Minnesota home; now, King is very influential in the health-system management world because people respect his years of experience and his acknowledged business acumen. King believes the AHA should provide a national voice for the hospital industry and should work with other trade groups to develop a healthcare vision for the future.

Bricks, mortar and a whole lot more

Article Abstract:

CEO Peter Fine of West Allis Memorial Hospital, Milwaukee, WI, consulted with hospital staff and studied patients' complaints before starting a $15 million remodeling of the facility. In addition to improving the physical plant, Fine wants to provide patient support, such as cutting down the time spent at admissions and curtailing traffic in and out of hospital rooms. Also, satellite room arrangements with storage space make it possible for nurses to respond faster to patients' needs.
