Defining costs of quality in the materiel department

Article Abstract:

The cost-of-quality process is a technique used to reduce the costs of producing and distributing high-quality products. The most important step in such a process is identifying the factors which influence the production of defective and below-quality products. By identifying such factors, materiel departments can focus their attention on opportunities for improving performance. A case study showing some of the common factors affecting quality is presented.

Empirical comparison of just-in-time and stockless materiel management systems in the health care industry

Article Abstract:

A comparative analysis of the benefits to be gained in implementing just-in-time (JIT) and stockless materiel management systems in hospitals is conducted. Empirical results show that both are superior over a conventional materiel management system. The results also indicate that there is no significant difference between JIT and stockless systems in terms of their effectiveness as a materiel management system for hospitals.
