Low-key, low-cost 'education' for physicians sparks savings

Article Abstract:

Cost savings in hospital care can be achieved without sacrificing quality of care by educating physicians. Three surveys reveal that physicians respond better to low-key programs including lectures and pamphlets than to high-pressure tactics such as monitoring by cost experts. University of Michigan Medical School associate dean John Billi, who directed the three studies in academic hospitals, says doctors in community hospitals should be studied next.
