Neuroprotective agents in acute ischemic stroke

Article Abstract:

Neuroprotective agents may protect neurons from the effects of cerebral ischemia by reducing neuronal death following hypoxic-ischemic insults. The therapeutic potential of neuroprotective agents has been shown to be beneficial in pre-clinical trials, but it has yet to be determined in clinical settings. Guidelines for patient management when neuroprotective agents are used are also examined.

Xenon-enhanced CT: clinical applications

Article Abstract:

Xenon-enhanced computed tomography (CT) is making it possible for health care providers to determine the extent of neuronal injury in patients. The technology helps professionals estimate cerebral blood flow and regional alterations in flow. CT can help assess a patient's candidacy for thrombolytic therapy and evaluate the cerebrovascular reserve of patients with carotid artery stenosis.

Case presentations of neuroradiologic interventions for acute cerebrovascular disease

Article Abstract:

Neuroradiologic interventions are being used as treatment and management options for people experiencing ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. Interventions include injecting intra-arterial urokinase in ischemic stroke victims, the use of coils to secure aneurysms, and balloon angioplasty for patients with cerebral vasospasm.
