On the shoulders of a giant: a mentoring experience

Article Abstract:

Dr. Elizabeth Winslow, chosen as a transformational leader in cardiovascular nursing, teaches that research with direct application to patient care is more than respectable and indeed is essential according to Ann F. Jacobson, PhD, RN, Asst professor, Kent State Univ, School of Nursing. Dr. Winslow asks students looking for a dissertation research project how passionate, on a scale of zero to ten, they feel about finding the answers to the research question under consideration. Unless the passion is at the level of seven or higher, the researcher will not persevere to complete the project, she asserts.

"And Gina sews": a tribute to Virginia Henderson, 1898-1996

Article Abstract:

Virginia Henderson made the important contribution to nursing of uniting the thought and practice of nursing. She related this philosophy to other nurses in the context of a story of how her uncle thought of her as a doer, but not a thinker. She exposed the complexities of nursing in a time when the practice was solely academic.
