Restoring public trust

Article Abstract:

The proliferation of medical errors at medical facilities across the US have caused public distrust, which can only be renewed through vigilance against such errors and through the recognition that errors are inevitable. Institutions should not become overconfident and should realize that errors can happen anywhere. Also, caregivers should welcome constructive suggestions for improvement, even as patients should be accepting of their vulnerability to the limitations of medicine.

Under scrutiny

Article Abstract:

Media stories about various problems surrounding shortened hospital stays for new mothers and other cost-related problems have aroused anger in many consumers. Politically, physicians, managed care providers, and consumers can find themselves in unusual alliances and oppositions as the industry develops.
