A 23-year-old man with progressive weakness and paresthesias

Article Abstract:

A 23-year-old healthy man developed tingling and numbness of his feet and hands, leg weakness, poor balance, and an arm tremor over a six-month period. Extensive testing ruled out infectious, toxic, drug-related, or other causes, and documented a pattern of symptoms suggestive of a neurologic disorder. He was diagnosed with chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculopathy, a degenerative nerve condition. He responded to antiinflammatory medication, although plasma exchange and immune globulin can be effective when an autoimmune process is involved.

Vascular risk factors and diabetic neuropathy

Article Abstract:

Identifying potentially modifiable risk factors for neuropathy is important, as glycemic control is the only treatment for diabetic neuropathy. Hence, the risk factors for the development of distal symmetric neuropathy in 1172 patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus are studied.
