A citywide protocol for primary PCI in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarctionf

Article Abstract:

A program in which all patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction within a metropolitan area can be referred for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is discussed. Findings suggest the best achievement of guideline door-to-door balloon times when trained paramedics identified patients in the field and referred them directly to a specialized center for primary PCI.

Advanced life support for out-of-hospital respiratory distress

Article Abstract:

The Ontario Prehospital Advanced Life Support (OPALS) Respiratory Distress Study was performed to assess the incremental benefit with respect to morbidity and mortality. The results showed that the introduction of an emergency medical services (EMS) advanced-life-support program and interventions significantly reduced mortality for patients with shortness of breath.
