A living legacy: AMA at 150 years

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Association (AMA) celebrates its 150th year in 1997. The highlight of the association's sesquicentennial year will be a conference on "Ethics and American Medicine," scheduled to convene in Philadelphia, PA, in Mar 1997. The AMA will continue to lobby for patients' rights and seek a new continuos quality improvement approach to reducing medical errors in 1997.

Happy birthday, AMA!

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 1997. The membership is still devoted to its patients, medical ethics, and the art and science of medicine. The challenges faced by the organization have changed over the years but the basic philosophy has not changed. A celebration of the anniversary was held at the annual conference of the organization.
