A national model for participative management and policy development

Article Abstract:

An innovative model for the US Dept of Veterans Affairs' national nursing policy is presented. Service strategies were developed at a national meeting of chief nurses, who drafted a vision statement. Guiding principles and standards were developed that would attract both patients and staff to the VA. Performance of the model for the first 18 months is examined.

Reorganization of the Veteran Administration by the Veterans Health Administration will require nurse to participate in innovations and quality-outcome concerns. Nurses are encouraged to exchange information in clinical research, administration, policy and edcational areas as a means of reinforce the desire to keep current.
