A prospective, randomized trial comparing the efficacy of dexamethasone and betamethasone for the treatment of antepartum HEELP (hemollysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome

Article Abstract:

Intravenous dexamethasone appears to be more effective than intramuscular betamethasone for treating pregnant women with the HELLP syndrome. HELLP syndrome is a serious complication of pregnancy involving destruction of red blood cells, liver damage, and decreased blood platelets.

The spectrum of severe preeclampsia: comparative analysis by HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzyme levels, and low platelet count) syndrome classification

Article Abstract:

Class 1 HELLP syndrome appears to be most severe form of this complication of pregnancy, compared to classes 2 and 3. HELLP stands for hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes and low platelet count. Women with class 1 HELLP syndrome have the lowest levels of blood platelets.

Maternal mortality associated with HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets) syndrome

Article Abstract:

Women with class 1 HELLP syndrome appear to have the highest mortality rates, as do those with hemorrhage in the liver, central nervous system, heart, or kidneys. HELLP is a complication of pregnancy characterized by anemia, liver disease, and low levels of blood platelets.
