A randomized trial of cerclage versus no cerclage among patients with ultrasonographically detected second-trimester preterm dilatation of the internal os

Article Abstract:

Cervical cerclage may not be beneficial in pregnant women with premature dilation of the lower portion of the uterus. Cerclage is a procedure to keep the cervix closed to prevent premature labor.

Revisiting the short cervix detected by transvaginal ultrasound in the second trimester: why cerclage therapy may not help

Article Abstract:

Cervical cerclage may not prevent premature birth in pregnant women with a short cervix as indicated by an ultrasound scan of the vagina. Cerclage is a surgical procedure to keep the cervix from opening prematurely.

Does the presence of a funnel increase the risk of adverse perinatal outcome in a patient with a short cervix?

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine whether the presence of a dilated internal os alters the outcome of patients with a short cervix documented by transvaginal ultrasound in the second trimester. It was concluded that the disruption of the internal os, as documented by funneling, was a significant risk factor for adverse perinatal outcome.
