A simplified approach to isolating a single tooth before endodontic therapy

Article Abstract:

Composite dental resin can be used to create a provisional tooth restoration to facilitate tooth isolation prior to root canal therapy. A heavily damaged tooth may provide inadequate structure for a dental dam and the other isolation tools necessary to maintain the sterility of the tooth canal during endodontic surgery. The use of clear wedges on both sides of the tooth, as well as within the drilled tooth root canal, and a matrix around the tooth creates a form and isolates the canal. Composite resin can then be used to fill the matrix and construct a supportive ring of composite material around the tooth canal. Full endodontic therapy can then proceed. .
