A technique for bleaching nonvital teeth: inside/outside bleaching

Article Abstract:

A procedure that whitens teeth from their internal and external surfaces has been presented. Preparations for the procedure involve creating a mold for the targeted teeth and providing access into the teeth. The patient nightly fills the mold with the whitening gel and also injects it into the tooth's opening to allow the gel to work from both directions. The mold can stay in the mouth from a few hours to overnight depending on how rapidly the patient wants the process to proceed. Process time varies with initial discoloration. The tooth access is later sealed permanently.

Laser-assisted bleaching: an update

Article Abstract:

The American Dental Association Council on Scientific Affairs does not recommend laser-assisted tooth bleaching using a carbon dioxide laser. Lasers are being marketed to dentists as an adjunct to chemical bleaching to accelerate tooth whitening. Most available data on the effectiveness and safety of these procedures comes from laser manufacturers. The Council does not presently endorse carbon dioxide laser bleaching, but encourages manufacturers to conduct tests and submit data to the Council for evaluation under the Seal of Acceptance program.
