Activated protein C resistance (factor V Leiden) associated with thrombosis in pregnancy

Article Abstract:

Women who experience blood clots or strokes during pregnancy may need to be tested for the presence of factor V Leiden mutation. Researchers studied 15 pregnant women admitted to a high-risk pregnancy unit because of blood clots in the deep veins, lungs, or stroke. Blood samples from seven women revealed activated protein C resistance, or the factor V Leiden mutation, which is associated with an increased risk of blood clot development. Such patients should be candidates for routine anticoagulant treatment during pregnancy and postpartum. Side effects of anticoagulant treatment should be weighed.

The VI-SENSE-vaginal discharge self-test to facilitate management of vaginal symptoms

Article Abstract:

The effectiveness of the self-using device, the diagnostic panty liner (VI-SENSE) (CommonSense, Caesarea, Israel), to indicate high probability of bacterial vaginosis (BV) and/or Trichomonas infections by detecting elevated pH or reduced acidity of the vaginal discharge is evaluated. The VI-SENSE test is found to be superior to traditional individual tests in facilitating preliminary diagnosis of vaginal infections.

Increased endometrial thickness in women with hypertension
