Ageism must be tackled through education

Article Abstract:

Accident and emergency departments, medical wards, surgical and orthopaedic wards are full of older people, who comprise about 80 percent of people cared for in NHS, but most of the ward-based nurses caring the old, lack specialist training to do so. For eradicating ageism, one should begin with education, by providing specialist modules so that all students learn about ageing and how to treat older people with respect and compassion.

Politicians should keep their distance

Article Abstract:

Decisions that affect the nation's health are not made on health grounds but on the grounds of political expediency. The introduction of politically independent organization would help deliver an integrated health care system from birth to death and would free up resources and the money saved could be used in frontline services.
