American doctor volunteer to fights SARS in Toronto

Article Abstract:

Dr. Tobi Karchmer, MD, an assistant professor of infectious disease diseases at Wake Forest University School of Medicine and a hospital epidemiologist at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, describes her experience in Canada that made her better prepared for the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS). She shares her experience in Toronto where she was a volunteer to fight SARS.

The issue of screening more people to lower the effects of late diagnosis is addressed. Some physicians favor that the benefits of wider screening outweigh the drawbacks, however, experts do not agree on who should be screened, and many patients fail to get the test when itEs recommended.
