Parties challenged over attacks on staff

Article Abstract:

Almost two-thirds of the hospital delegates including nurses were verbally or physically attacked in the year 2004 which pressurized three main political parties to take grave action against the violence. Some of the actions promised by the political parties include Liberal Democrat health spokesman stating that his party would pass legislation making assaults on nurses an arrestable offence.

Looking safety straight in the eye; are nurses facing a deluge of useless guidance from the National Patient Safety Agency or are they being presented with a real opportunity to improve patient care

Article Abstract:

The newly formed National Patient Safety Agency is planning a year-long study of infusion devices safety in the United Kingdom. The agency plans to get input from nurses on different methods and then decide on best practice. Other areas the agency plans to study include medication errors, reducing falls and reducing hospital-acquired infections.
