Site vehicles

Article Abstract:

It is vital construction workers are trained to use the vehicles on site safely and managers pay due attention to health and safety rules. Seven hundred people are injured and 15 die each year due to accidents involving construction vehicles. Some 22% of accidents are the outcome of the loss of control of the vehicles, with around five deaths annually being caused by reversing vehicles. Many accidents occur because the vehicles are not separated from pedestrians. Sites should also be secure from children and information literature warning of the dangers should be given to schools.

Drug dependency

Article Abstract:

A study has predicted 5% of people, in the UK, use drugs, such as cannabis, on a regular basis. Companies should develop a formal policy which deals with the problem of drug abuse by employees. The use of random drug testing can give false results, with some users able to slip through the net. Ecstasy is only found in urine for three days, following usage. Involvement of staff in developing a drug policy will help to publicize the problem and give clear guidelines how offenders will be treated. Employers have a duty to prevent staff working when they are under the influence of drugs.
