Approaches to Aids training for young people

Article Abstract:

A variety of training techniques and activities were used in the UK Dept of Health-funded AIDS Action Group Project for young people. The project, established in South Tyneside's training and youth centers, was aimed at developing HIV and AIDS training in the community and allowing young people to become personally involved in their own training. Training activities were undertaken using posters and leaflet displays, action groups and informal discussions. The most effective activities allowed young people to participate, were fun and were appropriate to the setting.

Evaluation of an HEA Aids awareness pack

Article Abstract:

HIV and Aids information packs targeted by the UK Health Education Authority at students in 1989 were not found to be educational regarding condoms, safe sex, and Aids, although most of the contents were interesting and useful, according to an evaluation of the initiative. The evaluation included telephone interviews with welfare officers, face to face interviews with students, and postal questionnaires for students. The survey revealed a need for closer collaboration between the Authority and those implementing the campaign.

A comparison of immediate and retrospective evaluations of an HIV and Aids training programme

Article Abstract:

Retrospective evaluation of an HIV and Aids training programme for maternity staff at Enfield Health Authority between 1989-1990 was found to produce more realistic and in-depth responses, compared to immediate responses, according to a comparison of the two approaches. The evaluation of HIV and Aids training can verify whether it is achieving its goals and identify areas which need attention.
