Arizona firms seek hospital regulation

Arizona is engaged in a political battle between major electronic firm and hospitals. The issue is controlling the cost that hospitals charge for services. The electronic firms are trying to obtain enough signatures to get a measure that would regulate hospital costs on the ballot. Physicians fear that if hospital costs are regulated then physician's fees will be next.

Federally mandated health planning may limit some hospitals from purchasing CAT scanners because of their high price tag. The American Medical Association maintains that the scanners have a positive effect on medical care and should be available to all patients who can benefit from them.
