Assessing fluoride levels of carbonated soft drinks

Article Abstract:

Dentists should be cautious in prescribing fluoride supplements for children because many soft drinks contain fluoride. Researchers measured fluoride levels in 332 soft drinks. Fluoride levels ranged between 0.02 parts per million (ppm) and 1.28 ppm. The average fluoride level was 0.72 ppm. A fluoride level of 0.60 ppm is considered sufficiently high so that dietary fluoride supplements are unnecessary. Seventy-one percent of the soft drinks had fluoride levels above 0.60 ppm. In no case was the fluoride content printed on the label.

Guided tissue repair of complete buccal dehiscences associated with periapical defects: a clinical retrospective study

Article Abstract:

New surgical techniques which focus on and support guided tissue regeneration (GTR) can allow patients to keep teeth which might otherwise be considered beyond saving. This can be done without resorting to the use of bone grafts. The use of GTR can bring about regeneration of the bone around the tooth's root which is identical to the surrounding bone. The new bone is as strong as the original, and there is not even a perceptible line to show the shift from one to the other.
