Bedside ID checks vital to patient safety

Article Abstract:

Nurses are being reminded that final patient bedside checks are crucial in picking up identification problems that may lead to treatment errors. Warning was issued by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA), following its research on how well manual checks are being carried out, and it concluded that failure to check patient's identity at the bedside is a major cause of blood and pathology samples, and X-rays being mixed up leading to errors in care, medicine or operations.
