Antitrust reform: give physician-run networks a realistic shot at competing with health plans owned by insurers

Article Abstract:

New antitrust enforcement guidelines could benefit physician-run networks. The new guidelines, which are expected in Aug 1996, are likely to adopt the rule-of-reason standard for evaluating physician-run networks. The rule-of-reason standard analyzes the actual effects of physician ventures on the health care market rather than assuming all physician-run networks to be anticompetitive.
