Blueprints for green design

Article Abstract:

A growing number of business enterprises are focusing on the integration of environmental standards with product development processes, as companies seek alternative measures to reduce operating costs. The trend was highlighted with the introduction of the Design for Environment concept, which centers on the notion that addressing economic issues lead to robust financial benefits. Design for Environment is not solely involved in the eradication of pollution, but is concerned with resource conservation and reduction of hazardous materials, as well.

Ergonomics around the world: sorting it all out

Article Abstract:

The proliferation of global statutes on ergonomics is a confusing issue for multinational entities. However, these statutes usually have four things in common. First, they pinpoint the risk factors in a working environment. Second, they have a fixed set of standards covering areas such as work habits and design of equipment. Third, they feature a learning component, and fourth, there are rules on medical management. IBM's regulations, as a case in point, generally complies with major regional standards such as those of the European Union.

Experts say that the best employment opportunities can be found in small or start-up companies that have only begun to focus on the importance of safety. Professionals in high demand are those that possess a variety of technical, business and communications skills. Masters's degrees are also an added advantage. Moreover, the salaries of safety professionals are on the rise ranging from $30,000 to $50,000 depending on experience.
