The standards of modern bodybuilding are founded on ancient Greek culture. The Greeks, which also established the Olympic Games, believed in the development of excellent minds and bodies. The Greek's preoccupation with fitness is reflected in its antique statues and other art forms.

Bodybuilding has progressed during the last 50 years from a sport that was scorned by our parents for its display of bikini-clad bodies to a choice exercise for several infirmities and illnesses. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who turns 50 in 1997, was instrumental to the sports popularity.

How the IFBB is saving bodybuilding

The American Athletic Union paled in comparison with the International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB) in terms of media coverage, imagination and management in 1966. IFBB influenced the world to make bodybuilding contests an art in themselves.
