Bone density changes in women who receive thromboprophylaxis in pregnancy

Article Abstract:

Bone mineral density (BMD) changes in women who receive thromboprophylaxis in pregnancy were studied by comparing the effects of unfractionated heparin (UH) therapy with the low molecular weight heparin (LMWH), enoxaparin sodium on BMD. It was concluded that for women who require only prophylactic doses of antithrombotic therapy and take calcium supplementation during pregnancy, neither UH nor LMWH therapy have a clinically significant impact on BMD.

Thromboprophylaxis and pregnancy: Two randomized controlled pilot trails that used low-molecular-weight heparin

Article Abstract:

Pilot studies for large randomized controlled trials to compare low-molecular weight heparin for antenatal thromboprophylaxis and thromboprophylaxis after cesarean delivery is presented. It was found that confirmed symptomatic thromboembolic events lead to fractures and wound complications.
