Bone marrow transplantation for severe combined immune deficiency

Article Abstract:

The study is conducted to compare outcomes and immune reconstitution in a large cohort of patients with severe combined immune deficiency (SCID) who received HLA-identical donor (RID), HLA-matched unrelated donor (MUD) or HLA-mismatched related donor bone marrow transplantation (MMRD BMT). It suggests that in the absence of a relative with identical HLA, MUD BMT may provide better engraftment, immune reconstitution and survival for patients with SCID than MMRD BMT.

Thyroid status, disability and cognitive function, and survival in old age

Article Abstract:

A prospective, observational, population-based follow-up study is conducted to determine whether subclinical thyroid dysfunction should be treated in old age and the long-term impact of thyroid dysfunction on performance and survive in old age. The findings indicate that the plasma levels of thyrotropin and free thyroxine are not associated with disability in daily life, depressive symptoms and cognitive impairment at baseline.
