Article Abstract:

Niemann-Pick type C (NP-C) disease is a fatal, autosomal-recessive cholesterol transport disorder, which correlates to a progressive loss of motor and neuronal function and premature death in the early teenage years. But recent studies on NP-C mice reveal that a single injection of allopregnanolone shortly after birth, doubled the survival time.

RNAi suppresses polyglutamine-induced neurodegeneration in a model of spinocerebellar ataxia

Article Abstract:

The ability of RNA interference (RNAi) to inhibit polyglutamine-induced neurodegeneration caused by mutant taxin-1 in a mouse model of spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) is evaluated. The results reveal that RNAi therapy could improve cellular and behavioral characteristics in a mouse model of a human dominant neurodegenerative disease, SCA1.
