Brief report: the hemodynamic mechanism of pounding in the neck in atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia

Article Abstract:

Patients with heart palpitations who experience a steady, rapid pounding in their neck may be suffering from atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia. Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia is a rapid heart beat caused by an electrical imbalance in the heart. Among 244 patients who experienced heart palpitations who were interviewed about their symptoms, 54 were diagnosed with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia and 190 were diagnosed with other conditions. Fifty of the patients diagnosed with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia reported a steady, rapid pounding sensation in their neck, but this symptom was not reported by any patients diagnosed with other conditions. The heart may contract differently in patients with atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia than in patients with other types of tachycardia.

Supraventricular tachycardia

Article Abstract:

The case study of a 28-year-old woman diagnosed with supraventricular tachycardia is illustrated. Catheter ablation is appropriate for supraventricular tachycardia associated with preexcitation or hemodynamic instability or if antiarrhymic drugs are not effective and it can also be used as primary therapy in other cases if the patients, informed of risks and benefits, prefer this approach.

Prophylactic catheter ablation for the prevention of defibrillator therapy

Article Abstract:

A study to assess whether the prophylactic catheter ablation could be a safer option to the chances of sudden death from implantable cardioverterdefibrillators (ICDs) is conducted. The results were positive and encouraging reducing the overall mortality rate.
