From catheters to vectors: the dawn of molecular electrophysiology

Article Abstract:

An overview is presented on gene therapy as a treatment for atrial tachyarrhythmias, via intracellular signaling pathway manipulation of cardiac conduction. Transgenic manipulation has been shown to be successful in slowing the heart rate during episodes of atrial fibrillation, and constitutes a significant contribution to electrophysiological research.

Genetic testing in the long QT syndrome: Development and validation of an efficient approach to genotyping in clinical practice

Article Abstract:

Genetic screening in patients with long QT syndrome (LQTS) is performed to determine the yield of genetic testing, as well as the type and the prevalence of mutations. The novel method may facilitate wider access to genotyping resulting in better risk stratification and treatment of LQTS patients.

Founder and recurrent CDH1 mutations in families with hereditary diffuse gastric cancer

Article Abstract:

A clinical trial carried out to find whether recurring germline CDH1 mutations occurred due to independent mutational events o common ancestry. The findings are that it occurs due to both conditions.
