Case 10-2007: A 55-year-old man impaled in a rowing accident

Article Abstract:

A 55-year-old man was admitted to hospital after being impaled in the lower back by the prow of a racing shell in a rowing accident. A discussion on the diagnosis of traumatic lacerations of the abdominal wall and viscera, with pelvic fracture is presented together with an account of the management of the trauma.

Article Abstract:

Beta blockers can reduce the muscle wasting that occurs in many burn patients. The exact cause of the physiological changes in burn patients is not known, but beta blockers can block the extensive protein metabolism that occurs.

Case 6-2004: a 35 year old woman with extensive, deep burns from a nightclub fire

Article Abstract:

A case record of a 35-year-old woman, who sustained serious burns in a nightclub after a pyrotechnics display set fire to the building, is discussed. A report of the entire process of her surgery and recovery is given.
