Article Abstract:

The example of a campus shop at Surrey University illustrates the importance of design in avoiding occupational injuries, since the chosen design initially caused backache problems for employees at the shop. Employees noted an improvement once a new workstation had been installed. Though the new equipment was not ideal, it involved a smaller reach area, a chair for which the height could be adjusted, and moving the cash drawer, till and scanner together. Since the employees' comfort affects the efficiency of the store, it should be considered when shop interiors are designed.

Audit report. (safety auditing)

Article Abstract:

The London Dockland Development Corporation (LDDC) has been conducting safety auditing since 1993 with the aim of reviewing and improving its health and safety standards. Health and safety auditing enables management to access independent assessments that will show whether work standards are being adhered to and whether legal requirements are being met. Proprietary audit packages should be flexible to reflect certain organisational operations.

Preventing PTSD

Article Abstract:

Employers should take measures to support staff who have been the victim of traumatic assault in the workplace or who have received an occupational injury so as to prevent shock from developing into post traumatic stress disorder. Debriefing is a not necessarily the best form of counselling, with some victims suffering further by being re-traumatized. Victim Support offers assistance to firms seeking to develop an aftercare policy.
