Chronic myelogenous leukemia - identifying the hydra's heads
Article Abstract:
Just as the Hydra regenerates two heads for each one that is severed, the blasts in most patients with blast crisis rapidly regenerate after initially regressing in response to imatinib. The existence of a definable, self-renewing population of granulocyte-macrophage progenitors of blast crisis suggests strategies for the development of new treatments for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML).

Building a bridge to heart transplantation
Article Abstract:
The temporary use of mechanical circulatory support before transplantation, known as 'bridging' is reserved for candidates for transplantation, and success is measured in terms of the proportion of patients surviving to successful heart transplantation. The artificial heart is not 'a bridge too far', but a triumph for the afflicted patient.
