Clinical equivalence of intranasal and oral 17beta-estradiol for postmenopausal symptoms

Article Abstract:

Giving women estrogen replacement therapy via a nasal spray can be beneficial and can avoid the problems with oral and transdermal delivery. This was the conclusion of a study of 659 postmenopausal women who took oral or intranasal estrogen or a placebo for 24 weeks.

Low doses of estradiol in combination with gestodene to prevent early postmenopausal bone loss

Article Abstract:

A 1 milligram dose of estradiol is sufficient to maintain bone density in postmenopausal women, according to a study of 278 women. Estradiol in high doses may increase the risk of cancer. Women with few symptoms of menopause may benefit from lower doses.

Progestational effects of combinations of gestodene on the postmenopausal endometrium during hormone replacement therapy

Article Abstract:

Lower doses of gestodene appear to reduce the risk of uterine bleeding. Gestodene is a synthetic version of progesterone that is used in hormone replacement therapy.
