Comments on 'Blood vitamin and lipid levels in overweight and obese women,' by A. Moore de Burgos et al

Article Abstract:

Certain methodological inadequacies were noted in the study made by Moor de Burgos, Wartanowicz, and Ziemlanski about overweight and obese women. Errors in calculation of cholesterol and lipoprotein ratios were presented. The association between hypertension and ascorbic acid levels was also questioned. Wartanowicz acknowledged the errors in calculation and reiterated that the causal relationship between vitamin C and hypertension needs to be further investigated.

Respiratory quotient changes in full term newborn infants within 30 hours from birth before start of milk feeding

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to assess substrate utilization among full-term newborn infants by measuring their oxygen consumption and their carbon dioxide production to come up with their energy expenditures. Results from respiratory quotient measurements reveal an increase of energy taken from fat metabolism at 30 hrs from birth. Furthermore, breast feeding or formula milk could represent a physiological approach to nutritional regimen of newborn infants.
