Complex ovarian cysts in postmenopausal women are not associated with ovarian cancer risk factors: preliminary data from the Prostate, Lung, Colon, and Ovarian Cancer Screening Trial

Article Abstract:

Complex ovarian cysts do not appear to be a precursor of ovarian cancer, according to a study of 20,000 women who had a vaginal ultrasound scan. Complex cysts were defined as those with a septum, a solid component, or an irregular or thick wall.

Ovarian cancer screening in the prostate, lung, colorectal and ovarian (PLCO) cancer screening trial: Findings from the initial screen of a randomized trial

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted with the objective to check the effect of ovarian cancer screening with transvaginal ultrasound in the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal and Ovarian Trial. Screening identified both early- and late-stage neoplasms, and the predictive value of both tests is relatively low.

Epidemiologic determinants of vaginal pH

Article Abstract:

Aging and menopause appear to cause an increase in vaginal pH. pH is a measure of the acidity of body fluids. In a study of 9,161 women, aging was linked to an increase in vaginal pH, as was menopause. A precancerous condition called cervical intraepithelial neoplasia was not linked to increasing pH, nor was infection with human papillomavirus.
