Effect of previous vaginal delivery on the risk of uterine rupture during a subsequent trial of labor

Article Abstract:

Pregnant women with a history of cesarean delivery who want to attempt a vaginal delivery are less likely to have uterine rupture if they also have a history of a vaginal delivery. In a study of 3,783 women with a history of cesarean, the rate of uterine rupture in those with a previous vaginal birth was one-fifth the rate in those without a previous vaginal birth.

Rate of uterine rupture during a trial of labor in women with one or two prior cesarean deliveries

Article Abstract:

Women who have had two previous cesarean deliveries have a greater risk of uterine rupture during a subsequent vaginal delivery than those who have had only one. Even so, the rate of rupture is small, occurring in less than 1% of 3,757 women with 1 prior cesarean and in 4% of 134 women with two.

Uterine rupture during induced or augmented labor in gravid women with one prior cesarean delivery

Article Abstract:

Oxytocin to induce labor should be used cautiously in pregnant women with a prior cesarean delivery who are attempting to have a vaginal delivery. In a study of 2,774 women, 2% of those given oxytocin experienced uterine rupture compared to less than 1% who had a spontaneous delivery.
