Conflict of interest

Article Abstract:

The possibility of financial considerations influencing clinical decisions makes it imperative for NHS staff to declare any interests they may have in the private sector. Senior NHS doctors and nurses with financial interests in private nursing homes may be tempted to put money ahead of patients' interests. Any involvement in the voluntary sector should also be declared because of the danger of conflict of interests. The third edition of the UKCC's code of conduct includes a new clause on declaring interests and a Dept of Health code of professional conduct for NHS staff is planned.
