Continent's provision

Article Abstract:

The Association for Continence Advice has conducted a survey into comparative state provision of incontinence products in Europe. Provision ranges from total state provision or partial reimbursement to no state provision. Per capita spending ranges from US$ 1.8-13.8. A free service is available in Denmark, Norway and Sweden. Catheters and appliances are available on prescription in Belgium, Denmark, France and the United Kingdom. A reimbursement system operates in Austria, Germany and Italy.

A helping handle

Article Abstract:

EMS Medical has introduced a new product to assist female intermittent self-catheterisation (ISC). The Intex catheter incorporates a handle to assist with insertion. Eighteen patients participated in a trial to determine efficacy. The selected women were new users or those experiencing problems with ISC. Fifteen women considered the Intex easy to insert. Ten considered it easier than other systems. Thirteen opted to use it regularly.

Quality of life with faecal continence problems

Article Abstract:

The problem of faecal incontinence and the role of focus groups in helping sufferers is discussed. Attitudes to the problem of some members of focus groups are also presented.
