"Continuity" as an organizing principle for clinical education reform

Article Abstract:

The hospital environment continues to offer learning opportunities for American medical students even in the 21st century, but several observers believe that the system is insufficient to meet society's ongoing health care needs. These experts express the need for a new model of clinical education that would incorporate the strengths of the present acute care educational model but eliminate the major weakness, namely, a lack of connection or continuity among different learning experiences.

Condoms and sexually-transmitted infections

Article Abstract:

The Public Law 106-554 required the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reexamine existing condom labels to determine the medical accuracy of their description of condoms' effectiveness in preventing human papillomavirus (HPV) infection along with other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). The promotion of condom use needs to be part of a more comprehensive approach to risk reduction, often referred to as the ABC approach (abstain, be faithful, and use condoms).
