Deadly cholera bug hitches a ride into U.S. waters

Article Abstract:

Federal investigators have found vibrio cholerae O1 in the oyster beds of Mobile Bay, AL. This is the same cholera strain responsible for the Peruvian epidemic. Health officials say that there have been no reported cases of cholera in the Mobile area. They suspect that the organism was carried north in the ballast water of cargo ships. A major epidemic in the US is unlikely since the disease thrives in unsanitary conditions. Nevertheless, ships have been ordered to empty ballast water twice before entering US coastal waters.

Here's what to look for in disability coverage for HIV

Article Abstract:

Disability insurance policies for health care personnel exposure to human immunodeficiency virus diseases must first define the terms used, according to an AMA Board of Trustees report. Other conditions include, for instance, coverage for the loss of income if a surgeon must change specialties. Policies must guarantee renewability and should provide for partial disability. Also, medical students and residents should receive coverage.
