Deaths among drivers of off-road vehicles after collisions with trail gates -- New Hampshire, 1979-2002

Article Abstract:

Five New Hampshire residents died between 1997 and 2002 after colliding with a trail gate in their off-road vehicle. Four were teenagers. These gates are on rail trails, which are old railroad tracks that have been converted to trails. The New Hampshire Bureau of Trails has increased the visibility of these gates to reduce the risk of a fatal crash.
